Lucy Kinder

Lucy comes to the Bar with considerable experience in Government policy and journalism.

Prior to beginning pupillage Lucy was Head of Economic Crime and Criminal Law Reform at the Ministry of Justice. In this capacity, she advised the Secretary of State for Justice on financial crime, including the Bribery Act and corporate liability. She was also the Government’s lead for scrutinising potential new or amended criminal offences. She had direct responsibility for theft and criminal damage offences and also developed a particular expertise in youth justice. She continued to work for the MoJ while studying part-time for the GDL and the BPTC.

Before joining the civil service, Lucy worked on a Government-commissioned review of prison education reform. She was also part of a small team that established a highly-successful scheme to recruit university graduates as prison officers, to improve prison conditions and reduce reoffending.

Lucy began her career as a journalist. She wrote for The Daily Telegraph for three years, covering domestic and foreign affairs, politics and sport.

During her legal studies Lucy won the UH/Blackstone’s National Criminal Advocacy Competition, competing against 31 other teams from across the country in five rounds of mock criminal trials.
