9 Bedford Row has an exceptionally strong depth and breadth in our Military law team. Indeed, our members have appeared in nearly every serious and high-profile Court Martial case over the last 10 years. Our members include many barristers (from QC to some of our most junior tenants) with former service experience including having served as legal advisors to the chain of command in headquarters and in the Service Prosecuting Authority. Our clerks room also includes former service personnel and so are able to respond to enquiries with specialist knowledge. 9 Bedford Row’s extensive court martial practice is reflected by the fact that several members of chambers are on the committee of the Association of Military Courts Advocates.
We pride ourselves on the quality of our representation and advice in all areas of military law including in relation to:
- Court Martial
- Court Martial Appeal Court
- Service Civilian Courts
- Representing service members who appear in the Magistrates’ or Crown Courts
- Boards of Inquiry
- Coroners Inquests
- Judicial Review
- Legal advice including in relation to disciplinary or service-related issues (including administrative action and service administrative investigations)
- Advice on military issues including expert advice in relation to IHL/LOAC
Our members regularly appear before Court Martial and the Service Civilian Court in the UK and abroad (for example Germany, Cyprus, Brunei and the USA). We often appear for multiple defendants in multi-handed trials.
We have experience of appearing in the most serious and high-profile Court Martial and CMAC cases. Our team includes barristers recognised for their expertise in relation to firearms and, due to our experience with international criminal law, we are uniquely placed to offer a comprehensive expert service in relation to both operational and non-operational matters.
